History
In 1868, Qatar signed a treaty with the British that recognized its separate status. This treaty helped to protect Qatar from outside interference and allowed it to develop its pearling and trading industries. In 1916, Qatar became a British protectorate, and it remained under British rule until it gained independence in 1971.
Since independence, Qatar has experienced rapid economic growth, thanks to its abundant oil and gas reserves. The country has invested heavily in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and it has become a major regional player. Qatar is also a member of the United Nations, the Arab League, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Pearl diving has a long and rich history in Qatar, dating back as far as 4,600 BCE. It was one of the main sources of income for the country before the discovery of oil in the 1930s.

GEOGRAPHY
Qatar is a small country located in the northeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and the Arabic Gulf to the north, east, and west. The country has a total area of 11,437 square kilometers
The terrain of Qatar is mostly flat desert, with some low hills in the west and north. The highest point in the country is Qurayn Abu al-Bawl, which is 103 meters (338 feet) above sea level. There are no permanent rivers or lakes in Qatar, but there are some underground aquifers.
The climate of Qatar is hot and dry, with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. The average temperature in July is 45°C (113°F), and the average temperature in January is 16°C (61°F).
